Marketer turned editor.
For as long as I can remember, I have been obsessed with stories. From huddling under a blanket with a flashlight late at night, binge-reading The Saddle Club and Baby-Sitters Club series, to writing my own books (badly) and “publishing” them with three-ring binders, books have been a critical part of my life.
Unfortunately the left side of my brain won out when declaring a college major, and I graduated from Indiana University-Bloomington with a B.S. in marketing. I worked in brand and digital marketing for a number of companies across industries, and during that time also went back to school for a creative writing degree (I wish) an MBA from Marquette University (dammit, left brain). What I didn’t know at the time was that I was learning invaluable skills and knowledge around positioning books that is a critical skill for editors in the publishing industry.
In 2019, after a series of unfortunate events (or fortunate, as they would turn out), I finally listened to my gut and landed a job as an associate editor at Sourcebooks, where I quickly built an impressive roster of titles and authors. I was promoted to editor two years later.
In 2023, I began taking on freelance editing clients in my free time. That side hustle quickly grew, and before I knew it, I had more work than I could take on while still working full-time and decided to leave Sourcebooks so I could focus on exactly what I love most about being an editor: helping writers tell the best story they can. And the rest, as they say, is history.
About Me
My home life
When I am not reading or editing, or thinking about reading and editing, my life pretty much revolves around my miniature goldendoodle, Cheddar (as it should). Until recently, Cheddar and I traveled around the U.S., doing long-term stays, for two years. We lived in 17 different states (ask me about my favorite! And my least favorite…). I am now happily settled back in my home state of Wisconsin, thrilled to be reunited with my books.
